Berwick Film and Media Arts Festival returns with its second international film festival – 9 days of some of the most dynamic film and video work to be screened in Britain.

As well as an exciting range of world-class films at the Maltings once again you will have the chance to see groundbreaking and innovative film and art set within Berwick’s unique historical locations.

Over nine days in late September the Berwick Film and Media Arts Festival returns, transforming Berwick-upon-Tweed into a moving image installation. A range of world-class contemporary film and media art will be shown in spectacular and unique historical and architectural locations, including underground ice houses, prison cells and Elizabethan ramparts.

With a packed programme, it might prove hard to see everything, so here are a few unmissable highlights:

An exciting programme of International feature films with 7 UK and European premieres, including our opening film, US indie The Big Bad Swim with appearance by director Ishai Setton.
Artists’ Trail – an international exhibition of twenty moving-image artworks and installations sited in Berwick’s most unique historical locations, including a new print of Andy Warhol’s famous Screen Tests.
The European premiere of My Grandmother, a stunning example of surreal silent cinema with a live accompaniment by San Francisco eight-piece Beth Custer Ensemble.
The Changing Face – A collaborative community based project involving the projection of the faces of over 200 young people on the Royal Tweed Bridge.
Archival screenings of rare films from the late 20’s to early 70’s from the Berwick Record Office and the NRFTA.
Screenings of award-winning and groundbreaking short films from the UK and around the world.
The Big M – a futuristic inflatable cinema showing internationally selected work on the theme of At Home in Europe.
Jan Gardner reprises her stunning appearance last year as she provides the live piano soundtrack to the Buster Keaton classic comedy Steamboat Bill Jr.

We are pleased to announce the Chris Anderson Memorial Screening and Prize, a showcase of local young filmmaking talent. We also have a host of other events for young people and the community during the festival.
