Digital Exchange Visual Arts Residency 2021

1 June 2021

Our digital exchange residency between Berwick-upon-Tweed and Råneå and Lulea in North Sweden was successfully delivered in partnership with Resurscentrum för konst in Norbotten and Swedish Lapland AiR. Artists Morag Eaton from Berwick-upon-Tweed and Mats Wikström from Råneå in Northern Sweden spent time together online through the Spring on 2021  learning about each other’s artistic practice and the creative communities.

The aim was very much to start a conversation between the two artists and locations, with no expectation for the artists to make work, though both artists did in different ways.

We concluded the residency within an online discussion between all the partners, artists and with an audience from Råneå and Berwick. It helped us better understand the possibilities and limitations of an online residency, and the artists’ experiences of working together in this way. We still hope to be able to undertake a physical exchange of artists when this is possible and are discussing the potential to develop a project as part of the Lulea Biennial in Autumn 2022.
