We’re Recruiting!

14 January 2022

The Maltings (Berwick) Trust is currently recruiting. Candidates will be supporting the organisation through a period of transformational change at an exciting time in our 30 year history.

We’re about to enter an unprecedented 4 year period of renewal and growth – working with Northumberland County Council on a major capital project funded by the Borderlands Growth Deal. We’ll be creating a new venue for Berwick on our current site, securing our leadership role as the anchor organisation for Berwick’s culture-led regeneration, strengthening our artistic programme, expanding our community engagement and youth arts programme, and growing our reach and impact. The new Maltings is currently due to open in 2025, necessitating a 2 year decant period to temporary locations at Berwick Barracks and elsewhere during 2023 and 2024.

Board Recruitment

The Maltings (Berwick) Trust is seeking expressions of interest from individuals willing to join the Board of the Maltings (Berwick) Trust.

We currently have 7 Trustees, with a range of professional backgrounds – finance, public sector, cultural management, project management, capital projects, Health & safety, PR/brand development. We are keen to expand the Board by recruiting up to 5 new Trustees during 2022.

We recognise that to deliver effectively against ACE Investment Principles (Ambition & Quality, Dynamism, Environmental Responsibility, and Inclusivity & Relevance) we require additional skills at Board level, including equalities, environmental sustainability, digital, education, legal & commercial, and cultural / creative industries management. We are also keen to champion gender diversity and recruit Trustees under 40, and we will offer mentoring support for young people interested in joining our Board.

All Trustees work in a voluntary capacity and are unpaid, but all reasonable expenses incurred on our behalf will be reimbursed. They are expected to attend 4 formal Board meetings a year, participate in time limited working groups and additional planning sessions as required, and attend events and exhibitions through the year. Meetings are currently held in person in Berwick and online.

Trustees are expected to act as champions for the Trust, promoting the organisation positively across their own networks and communities.
Trustees are appointed initially for a 3 year term, and may then stand again for one additional term of 3 years.

Head of Finance

The Head of Finance is a new senior role. It offers a challenging and rewarding opportunity to play a crucial part in ensuring robust financial management and accountability, and in enabling the successful delivery of a vibrant creative programme. The postholder will ensure we manage, allocate and monitor our resources effectively – as we strive to develop artistically and maximise our positive impact on all the communities we serve, regionally and nationally.

This is a key role within a growing and ambitious organisation. Our ideal candidate will have a relevant accounting background, demonstrable financial expertise, excellent communication skills, a meticulous eye for detail, be able to work autonomously and manage multiple priorities, and be someone who thrives in a busy working environment.
