Berwick Educational Association Workshops: Constructing a Narrative: adding meaning to your work

Berwick Educational Association are hosting a series of six practical art workshops inspired by the works of women artists in Berwick Visual Arts Spirited exhibition on display at the Granary Gallery, giving amateur and professional artists the opportunity to try out some of the techniques used by artists in the Spirited exhibition.

Workshop 5 - Constructing a Narrative: adding meaning to your work
Looking closely at the work in the Ingram Collection we will start the day by constructing a collage using symbolic imagery and drawing. This will be used as the starting point for a narrative painting or drawing. Bring paper and paints or drawing material.

Collage materials will be provided.

All workshops
1. Women Painting Women: an acrylic painting workshop - 7 June
2. Propaganda of Print: a reductive lino printing workshop - 21 June
3. Sculptors Drawings: an excercise in mixed media - 5 July
4. The Figure in the Landscape: drawing and painting in watercolour or gouache - 12 July
5. Constructing a Narrative: adding meaning to your work - 19 July
6. Abstraction and Mark Making from the Landscape: experiments in composition and mixed media - 26 July

Each workshop, which can be booked separately, will focus on a different subject and range of techniques and media. Each workshop will be led by local artist Gill Walton, and will begin with a 30-minute tour of the exhibition led by Prof Maria Chester. Each class is limited to 10 students.
