Join Transitions Dance Company for an electrifying evening of dance accessible to all.
Eleven of the best young dancers from across the world perform a mixed bill of choreography by three international artists: one has worked in German Tanztheater, one is an ex-soloist from The Royal Ballet and one a choreographer whose 2011 work The Other/s had a successful debut with last year’s company, producing an intimate and expectant atmosphere in which surprise and pathos delighted audiences.
The individuality and enthusiasm of Transitions’ dancers and the artistry of these renowned choreographers, makes this year’s Transitions’ tour an unmissable event. This is your opportunity to catch a glimpse of the future stars of contemporary dance.
The Drawing Room
Choreography Martin Nachbar. Costume Design Berit Laageide. Lighting Design Karsten Tinapp. Music Helen Whitcher. A much loved British family and its domestic environment are the subject of this piece by Martin Nachbar, with an especially written score by up and coming composer Helen Whitcher. Wittily observed, with finely honed, quirky movement, the piece is both absurd and mysterious. This just might be a sneaky peak into the real lives of a special clan!
Choreography Shang Chi Sun. Costume Design Suzie Holmes. Lighting Design Fay Patterson. Music David TudoIn. Shang Chi’s sextet, a simmering group intensity and energy is created as the dancers search for, try to maintain or perhaps even escape from relationships with one another. Moving with detailed fluidity, manipulating each other in complex contact material,
the dancers embark on a journey, immersed in a hypnotically insistent electronic
Choreography Hubert Essakow. Costume Design Martina Trottmann. Lighting Design Andrew Hammond. Music Mike MacLennan, Jon Opstad, Johann Pachelbel and Alessandro Scarlatti. Inspired by the life and work of US graffiti artist Keith Haring, Hubert’s full company work is characterised by an articulate pure dance vocabulary, and is underpinned by his classical training and an incisive musicality. With their universal human quality, Haring’s graphic babies and hyperactive, technicoloured figures drive this piece with a humorous and joyous tenor. New music by composers Mike MacLennan and Jon Opstad alongside the timeless work of Scarlatti and Pachelbel.
