Humans have been making their mark since the days of the earliest cave dwellers. How did we get from there to the profusion of mark making of every kind displayed in the work of modern artists?

Join Professor Chester for a whistle -stop tour of the history of drawing, from cave art to the graffiti art of the enigmatic Banksy, in the first half of her lecture. The second half of the lecture will look in detail at some of the inspirational life drawings currently on display in Berwick Visual Arts, Granary Gallery. Drawn from Life: People on Paper, is a touring exhibition from the Arts Council Collection, hosted by Berwick Visual Arts and runs from 28th October to 7th January 2018. This exhibition gives us a unique opportunity to compare and analyse life drawings by some of the greatest artists of the twentieth century, such as David Hockney, Lucian Freud and Henry Moore, right on our doorstep!

Professor Chester will offer a tour of the exhibition at the Granary Gallery from 1-2.00 pm later this day for a maximum of 15 people - places on the tour cost £3.
