Far from home, across all borders, hope survives.
From director Steven Spielberg comes an epic adventure set against a sweeping canvas of rural England and Europe during the First World War. It is an odyssey of joy and sorrow, passionate friendship and high adventure.
The film begins with the remarkable friendship between a horse named Joey and a young man called Albert, who tames and trains him. Later, boy and horse are forcefully parted when Joey is sold to the calvary and shipped to the Continent. The film follows the extraordinary journey of the horse as he moves through the war, changing and inspiring the lives of all those he meets—British cavalry, German soldiers, and a French farmer and his granddaughter—before the story reaches its emotional climax in the heart of No Man’s Land.
Separated by war. Tested by battle. Bound by friendship.
The film is based on British author Michael Morpurgo's children's novel set before and during World War I, and the stage adaptation of the same name. Technically superb, proudly sentimental, and unabashedly old-fashioned, War Horse is an emotional drama that tugs the heartstrings with Spielberg's customary flair.
BBFC Consumer Advice: Contains infrequent moderate battle violence.
