Maltings Youth Theatre & Friends present an amateur production of

The Producers - A New Mel Brooks Musical

Come along for a great night out, with the cream of the crop of Berwick's home grown talent! Members of Maltings Youth Theatre bring back some old friends, and the team that brought you Hairspray and Here Come The Girls, to 'high kick' into Germany with this outrageous, hilarious musical, which last year toured the UK with an all-star cast featuring Jason Manford, Ross Noble and Louie Spence.

• Directed by Wendy Payn
• Musical Director: Neil Metcalfe
• Choreography by Nancy Steele, Wendy Payn and Charlotte Payn
• Starring: Ross Graham, Katie Hindmarsh, Mark Vevers, David (Dimples) Simpson, Oliver Payn, Sammy Reed and a fantastic chorus of young local performers!

Max Bialystock, a down on his luck Broadway producer, recruits a timid accountant, Leo Bloom, to produce the biggest flop in history and run away with millions.

You'll find yourself holding your sides with laughter, as together they sing and dance their way through the greatest show biz scam ever...

The Producers is adapted from Mel Brooks' 1968 film of the same name. It ran for over 2,500 performances on Broadway, winning a record-breaking 12 Tony Awards, ran in London for just over two years, has toured the world, and was remade as a hit movie in 2005 starring Nathan Lane, Matthew Broderick and Uma Thurman.

Director, Wendy Payn, says "This has to be one of my favourite musicals, as anyone who has seen Here Come the Girls will know, 'I Wanna Be A Producer’ has become something of a theme tune for ‘the boys’ and so they should all know the words for that number at least! This show sees the welcome return of some past Youth Theatre members, Sammy Reed plays Franz Liebkind, a crazy German with a pigeon coup, and Mark Vevers is Max Bialystock the famous Broadway producer, down on his luck but never down hearted. The songs are fantastic and once again we have had the talents of Nancy Steele helping our Stormtroopers tap their way to victory."

Our very own Leo Bloom (Ross Graham) had this to say about the show: "I have always wanted to do this show, and If you know The Producers then you know how funny it is! The rehearsals have been hilarious, it's going to be hard to keep a straight face at some points."

And here's a short and sweet comment from our Max Bialystock (Mark Vevers): "You should come see this show because, let's be honest, it's a Wendy Payn directed show!"
