Message from Jason Manford…
Hello there, Jason here, thanks for stopping by.
I’ve been wondering for a while now, why is local stand-up comedy not high up on the list of what people think about doing when looking for a great night out?
So where do we go? The local pub for a few drinks? Cinema? Maybe a meal with a loved one or a cheeky midweek quiz with some mates, even ten-pin bowling is considered higher up than comedy!
How can that be? That seems crazy to me.
It’s my theory that if you’ve seen a comedian on the telly and liked them, you’ll buy tickets because you know you’re in for a guaranteed night of laughter. People certainly came to see me on tour (thank you for that). They go to see John Bishop or Sarah Millican or Micky Flanagan, and they have a bloody good time. It’s money well spent – but it’s not a weekly occurrence.
When it comes to your local, affordable comedy club, the simple but all-important question is: “But how do I know they will be funny?”
My plan is this: I’m going to carefully select some of my favourite comedians from the circuit and send them to a town near you. Simple!
The brilliant line up at The Maltings includes:
MC Matt Reed
Keep on laughing’ folks, and remember, there’s nothing like live!
Cheers, Jason x

About the Comedians:
• Gavin Webster; a blunt-talking, motor-mouth Geordie with a hoard of gags under his belt, from weather-beaten old favourites to leaps of imagination, while others are as sharp and funny as they are hard hitting. Starting his solo comedy career in 1995, he is an established name on the circuit, winning UK Circuit Comedian of the Year in 2014, and supporting Lee Evens, Jack Dee and Phil Jupitus on tour. He was also a regular team captain on Channel 4’s Does Doug Know?
• Fran Garrity; as heard on BBC Radio 4 New Comedy Awards 2016 and BBC Newcastle’s Jesting About delivers a real and one of a kind perspective on everyday life. Making regular appearances for Buzz Comedy, Ten Feet Tall, Jongleurs and Manford’s Comedy Club – he was a finalist in 2015 for City Comedian of the Year and FAF Breakthrough Act.
• Steve Shanyaski; rapidly established himself throughout the UK with his whirlwind performances and has performed with major comedy venues and promoters including the Comedy Store, CSE, Glee Club and Jongleurs. Performing to diverse audiences throughout the world from bikers in a field to royalty in a theatre - proving a hit with even the quietest of the crowds (which he credits to his energy and silliness), his thrilling routines never cease to go down a storm.
• Matt Reed; born and bred in Sunderland, Matt started comedy in 2001 as half of the double act of Matt & Faron with Faron Smith – in his solo career he made the finals of the Daily Telegraph Open Mic Award in 2002 and of the Leicester Comedian of the Year contest in 2003.
