Sing Sistah Sing!

We're absolutely delighted to welcome back the internationally celebrated mezzo soprano, Andrea Baker, to perform her award-winning (2018 Editors' Award at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival - Three Weeks Magazine) show Sing Sistah Sing! as part of Black History Month.

This FREE performance is primarily planned as a school performance, but this outstanding, five star show is simply unmissable - so we've opened it up to the public too! Please note, although this event is free, tickets MUST be booked in advance.

Watch the trailer HERE and watch Andrea Baker discuss her show HERE.

Conceived and written by Andrea Baker, a British American who began her illustrious career with the San Fransisco Opera, Sing Sistah Sing! honours some of the greatest African American singers including; Marian Anderson, Nina Simone, Aretha Franklin and Billie Holiday.

The show brilliantly weaves together these women’s brave struggles in the civil rights movement and their fight for artistic freedom at home and abroad. Some have chosen opera, jazz or blues to express their inner truth, but at the heart of the story is that all African American women carry in their souls and voices the sounds of their ancestors’ songs of the plantation.

A native of Massachusetts, Andrea Baker has lived in Europe for 25 years and now calls Scotland home. With Sing Sistah Sing! she chronicles her own deeply personal story, paying a joyful and soulful homage to the strong women who courageously paved the way. The voices and stories of the women celebrated in Sing Sistah Sing! reveal the extraordinary lives and untold history of these powerful African American singers.

It's the third time we've had the pleasure of hosting Andrea Baker following her exceptional performance as Fricka/Waltraute in Berwick Festival Opera's Die Walkure (2015) and her sell-out performance of Sing Sistah Sing! in 2018.

“Andrea Baker danced barefoot, sinuously rhythmic, feet stomping, hands clapping, the richness of her mezzo-soprano seemingly drawn up from the earth itself.” - Tuscaloosa News

“Andrea Baker seized my attention and didn’t let go for an entire hour!” - Three Weeks
