Turner: Northern Exposure Exhibition Catalogue

Joseph Mallord William Turner (1775-1851), landscape painter, traveller, poet and teacher is widely thought of as Britain’s greatest artist.
Turner: Northern Exposure follows the artist’s first northern tour in 1797, a journey which transformed him from an architectural draughtsman to a poet of landscape sublime.
Documenting the exhibition of the same name, which travels to three galleries across the north of England - The Granary Gallery, Berwick-upon-Tweed; Tullie House Museum and Art Gallery, Carlisle and the Mercer Art Gallery, Harrogate – the catalogue is richly illustrated with works featured in the exhibition from regional and national collections including treasures from the Turner Bequest at Tate.
Accompanying the illustrations is an insightful text by Professor Emeritus David Hill, a leading authority on Turner, allowing the reader to follow Turner’s inspirational journey across the north of England and understand the impact this tour had on his artistic career and life.
Softback, 52 pages with 27 colour images and 6 black and white images.
