Maltings at The Granary Gallery

Dewar’s Lane, Berwick-upon-Tweed, TD15 1HJ

The Granary Gallery is part of The Maltings’ year-round arts and culture programme across Berwick. The gallery presents a changing programme of exhibitions throughout the year, with a focus on modern British art and artists inspired by Northumberland and the Scottish Borders.

Previous exhibitions have included Scottish Colourists from The Fleming CollectionTurner: Northern ExposureThe Glasgow Boys & Girls and L.S. Lowry in Berwick & Northumberland, bringing nationally significant work to local audiences alongside contemporary perspectives.

Originally known as Dewar’s Lane Granary, the building dates from 1769 and sits within the network of narrow streets and alleyways inside Berwick’s Elizabethan Quay Walls. After being damaged by fire in 1815, it continued in use as a working granary until 1985 before falling into disrepair. The building was later refurbished by Berwick-upon-Tweed Preservation Trust and reopened in 2010, now home to the youth hostel, bistro, meeting spaces and the Granary Gallery.
