Edinburgh’s Stevenson family left two astounding legacies. First were the 97 major lighthouses they constructed around the Scottish coastline between 1790 and 1940, and second was the works of Robert’s grandson, Robert Louis Stevenson, who used his three-year apprenticeship as an engineer as the base material for many of his greatest tales, including Kidnapped and Jekyll & Hyde.
