As well as doing our best to make physical access to our buildings as straightforward and comfortable as possible, we’re also developing new strands of work.

Accessible Cinema

For films with repeat screenings, we aim to schedule at least one screening with subtitles for anyone affected by hearing loss.

Our autism-friendly relaxed screenings are scheduled throughout the year offering a sympathetic sensory experience for people on the autism spectrum and their friends and family, this includes leaving the lighting on low, reducing the volume, not screening trailers or adverts, making it known that it’s okay to make noise and move about, offering the Stage Door Bar as a “chill-out space”.

We host monthly Memory Laners dementia-friendly screenings in our Studio (raked seating and also chairs and tables on a level floor), showing specially selected classic films. Everyone’s welcome, but especially those with dementia and their carers – a chance to sit back and relax, and share an hour or two of old-fashioned entertainment. We don’t show trailers or adverts, so films start promptly at 2pm. Doors will open 20 minutes before, so there’s plenty of time to find a seat.
