Residencies

The Maltings provides opportunities for artists to develop their practice through a number of different residency programmes.

The Maltings’ Artist Residencies provide artists with the time, space and support to develop ambitious new work through research, collaboration and creative experimentation. Working in partnership with organisations including Newcastle University and other cultural and academic institutions, our residencies bring together artists, researchers and communities to explore contemporary issues through place-based practice. The projects showcased here demonstrate the impact of these collaborations, creating new perspectives on rural life, heritage, landscape and the people who shape them.

Residencies with Newcastle University’s Centre for Rural Economy and Institute for Creative Arts Practice

Through collaborative residencies, artists have investigated themes including agriculture, food systems, wellbeing, landscape, heritage and community, creating ambitious new work that offers fresh perspectives on contemporary rural issues.
