Berwick Film Society: Wild Men (15)

Ended

A quest for primeval manhood goes wildly astray in this Scandi absurdist drama dripping with dark humour and occasional blood-splattered action.

Dressed in ridiculous primitive garb, bumbling Martin, a father of two, abandons suburban life and heads offgrid into woods and fjords to unearth his survivalist roots. Beer and crisps beckon. Trouble lurks in the undergrowth.

Expect the unexpected: from random slapstick to a tension-packed finale, this is no tame caper – and therein lies its originality.

“Personable, witty and entertaining throughout, this is one of those rare pieces of cinema which makes no compromises yet has wide audience appeal”
Jennie Kermode, Eye For Film
“Wild Men is anchored by Bjerg’s central performance as Martin, absurd but oddly sympathetic in his naivety, a forlorn figure lost in the majesty of the Norwegian mountains”
Philip Kemp, Sight & Sound
