In this 80th anniversary year of her much-loved Moomin characters, Tove Jansson is being celebrated not only in her native Finland but worldwide. As well as her Moomin novels, she authored acclaimed literary works, notably The Summer Book, adapted to the screen, as well as innovative children’s books.
Jansson was multi-talented, also writing plays and an opera and pursuing her lifelong passion for painting. Paul Gravett examines her remarkable work and life as a Swedish-speaking lesbian Finn, and how they resonate more than ever today.
This event is also suitable for high school students.
“Tove Jansson is one of the most original, philosophically dextrous and generous artists to have graced this world.” Ali Smith
