Our Freedom Exhibition

The Straw Yard  |

Our Freedom is an exhibition of photography and artwork by Berwick Youth Project exploring ideas of freedom and what that means to young people in Berwick today whilst reflecting on the concept of freedom experienced by young people 80 years ago at the end of the Second World War.

It is part of Our Freedom: Then and Now, a nationwide project for Future Arts Centres reflecting on what freedom means to local people and their communities, following the 80th anniversary of VE/VJ Day. The work by the young people in the exhibition has informed Our Light, Our Freedom a new contemporary neon sculptural installation for the Maltings Cinema at Berwick Barracks by artist April Key co-commissioned by The Maltings and Berwick Youth Project.

The Future Arts Centre programme is delivered in partnership with Libraries Connected and Open Eye Gallery, supported using public funding by UK Government through Arts Council England. The Living Barracks project which includes The Maltings as a partner will restore and renew the historic Berwick Barracks. It is supported with funding from The National Lottery Heritage Fund.
