Step back into the past for an evening of storytelling and folklore at The Straw Yard.
For one night only, local actor, writer and Duns Play Fest Director John McEwen will provide a striking performance of legends from Wilson’s Tales of the Borders and of Scotland. The Wilson’s Tales were produced by John Mackay Wilson in the 19th century. Born in Tweedmouth and editor of the Berwick Advertiser, Wilson collected and published local folktales. Rich in human drama, historical intrigue and supernatural mystery, the stories were a sensation, widely read across Britain, America and Australia.
Enjoy 45 minutes of dramatic storytelling as McEwen retells three of Wilson’s most popular and enduring tales. We’ll encounter the dangers of travelling alone on Tweedmouth Moor; the notorious family who clashed with the Governor of Berwick 500 years ago; and a haunting story from the darkest depths of the border between Scotland and England.
Draw up a chair and discover the magic of Wilson’s Tales in this unique encounter with Berwick’s history and folklore.
