Autism Friendly Screening: Detective Pikachu

This Autism Friendly Screening is tailored to the needs of those living with autism, their families and carers, so that they will feel more comfortable during a trip to the cinema.

Lights are left on low, sound levels are at a softer volume, there is no trailers before the film, audience members are free to make noise and move about (no running please).

Detective Pikachu is a funny, adventure and mystery film about a world like ours where humans collect Pokemon to do battle.

When detective Harry Goodman goes missing, his son, a teenager called Tim goes on an adventure through the bright Rhyme City with the help of his new friends and his Dad’s former partner Pikachu to find out what happened.

BBFC Guidelines state that this film includes mild fantasy threat and mild rude humour. Read below for full guidance but please note this may include spoilers.

Using Demensions Guide as a template, we have created a fun workbook to help those with Autism prepare and feel more at ease about what their trip to the cinema will include! Please click HERE to download it for them to fill out with you, or e-mail us if you need it in a different format - we're more than happy to help.

We would also greatly appreciate any feedback you might have about this guide and our Autism Friendly Screenings! If you have any feedback you think might be useful, please click HERE to e-mail us.

BBFC GUIDANCE
In a series of fantastical action scenes, both human and Pokemon characters face danger as they are chased by villains and are caught up in what appears to be an earthquake. There are also fighting scenes in which the heroes are thrown around, but the action is unrealistic, without injury detail, and its intensity is punctuated by humour and a focus on the heroes handling the threat by being resourceful in finding ways to escape their predicaments. In one scene, a car plunges off a bridge and crashes; apart from a brief, undetailed shot of a human character crawling from the wreckage, the fate of the occupants remains a mystery.

There is very mild rude humour with references to 'peeing' and a human character's 'nakedness'. There is very mild innuendo in references to a character's flirting technique and a very oblique drug reference relating to a fantastical gaseous substance which features as part of the film's storyline. There is also very mild bad language ('hell', 'Jeez', 'God', 'damn') and a line in which a character exclaims "Oh sh..".
