The Living Barracks is an ambitious multi-partner project, that will deliver a thriving cultural hub and visitor destination at Berwick Barracks.
With the support of Create Berwick, Northumberland County Council and North East Combined Authority, six bespoke artist studios have now been completed on the ground floor of G Block, which will be managed by The Maltings (Berwick) Trust.
We are now open for applications from artists and creatives working across any artform (other than those requiring hot works or ventilation), and at any point in their career, to relocate their practice to the studios and begin to form a visible and vibrant artistic community at the Barracks.
We are looking for artists and creatives who have:
- A high-quality artistic / creative practice.
- Have a need for studio space to develop and sustain their practice
- Will use their studio on a regular basis and to its full potential.
- Will play an active role in Berwick Barracks as a developing cultural hub for the town.
We will prioritise applications from artists who live and / or work in North Northumberland and TD10 – TD14 postcode areas of the Scottish Borders.
The studios are full accessible with lockable doors, power sockets, access to Wi-Fi and spotlights and an electric radiator. They have a shared kitchen, designated wet working space and accessible toilet.
Studio’s range from 12-14 sqm and are available at £180 per calendar month including utilities and wi-fi.
One studio is available for booking on a weekly basis for shorter term use.
Studio Open Day
If you would like to visit the studios before applying, we are hosting on Open Day on Saturday 12 April between 10.30am – 4pm, when Maltings staff can give artists a tour of the studios and answer any questions.
